Parking is a bitch--small lot of mostly "Compact Car Only" spaces. I had to circle a few times until I got a spot. It was worth the trouble, as it turns out. The cafe was crowded, but I was seated promptly. There are several booths and tables, as well as some counter seating.
I had gone in thinking I'd have some soup, but then saw some breakfast platters going by that looked mighty tempting--they serve breakfast all day I discovered. So I succumbed to the "Java Special"--two eggs, hash browns, bacon, toast and coffee (or tea), for only $4.99.
It came out really fast--I was surprised. And it was a perfect breakfast. My over easy eggs were cooked perfectly (runny yolk with fully-cooked whites), and they use my preferred style of hash brown--the shredded potato (as opposed to "home fries" and other less worthy variations). Bacon was crisp. All in all, a perfectly executed eggs-and-bacon breakfast. And the place has a friendly feel to it. Service was very good.
I'm sure their salads and sandwiches are also worth trying. Will have to return for more.
Update: Went back 9/19/2005 and had the Turkey BLT with potato salad. Was good. Was much better than the equivalent offering at Bear Rock Cafe.

I don't know about the other reviews on crapy service, but our family visits this place all the time in Round Rock. We have never had bad service. It is a pleasant place to go and the food is pretty good. We will go back again and again.

My favorites are the philly, the chicken caesar, and the steak -n- eggs, but the specials and most everything on the menu tend to be excellent. Really, the food here is unusually good for an Austin restaurant, and the prices are quite reasonable. Service varies. Those of us who tip regularly and well seem to always get excellent service. Rude people are often completely ignored by the young waitstaff who don't exactly seem to live in fear of their management.

Great folks with awesome food. Very inexpensive, I am actually always surprised at the value-I would pay more for the food.
I used to work near the one on Metric, and ate there once a week at least. I live in RR, so very happy they have on close now.
Pretty good

The food is good; typical breakfast fare. It's served quickly, and the prices are better than other places. I have no complaints with Cafe Java.
Wonderful atmosphere, tea/coffee and service

I've been to Cafe Java probably 20 times and have always had a fair priced meal with hearty serving portions. The staff is friendly even when busy, which they usually are. I've met several clients and friends and would highly recommend it for small meetings. It's so convenient from just about any where Northwest. It's like your own small cafe you could call home for a break and for business.
Good food, crappy service

I've been in the RR location multiple times now. I keep giving the place chances because the food is good and convenient to our home. But the service sucks. Just tonight the server took off with my tea glass to fill it and never returned. She was then off "huddling" with her work mates. That seems to be the deal - a bunch of teens and early twenty somethings having a party time at work. All of the time. Every time I go in there. These folks are going to be out of business soon from the lack of service and paying folks for doing very little.
cafe java is now open in round rock also

This is simply one of the best eateries in town. Great food, cheap prices, good atmosphere.
The only downfalls include no alcohol served, and hours limited on weekends.
