Not Cheap

Everyone knows Fuddruckers (or "Bloodruckers," as we used to call it in high school, back when the restaurants proudly displayed cow carcasses hanging in a cooler right at the entrance)--fresh ground beef (never frozen, ground on-site), buns baked on-site, fresh produce bar. I had no intention of lunching at Fuddruckers, but my original target, Flores Mexican Restaurant, had a giant "For Lease" sign on it when I arrived, so I went next door for a burger.

As everyone is surely aware, the Fuddruckers burger is a good burger. It would be much better if they cooked it over a grill instead of on a griddle, but it's still quite good due to the fresh beef and homemade buns (although the bun was so soft that it did not hold up well to the onslaught of fresh-ground-beef-cooked-on-a-griddle grease). And of course Fuddruckers has the cornucopia-like truly impressive condiment bar, piled with fresh veggies. They even have four varieties of onions (diced red onion, diced white onion, sliced red onion, sliced white onion) and two styles of lettuce (shredded and whole-leaf), which I think is a testament to their burger pleasing efforts.

I would have easily given them a higher rating were it not for the outrageous price. I ordered the small burger (1/3 lb.) with cheese, small fries and a drink. Total came to $9.49! That's crazy! The only other time I have been so shocked by a burger total was my visit to Waterloo Ice House. They really should offer some kind of meal deal (burger + fries + drink) that's more reasonably priced.

So, a good burger if you can handle the sticker shock.

For the price, the burger wasn't outstanding. Pretty expensive for a burger place, so if you are looking for a cheap place to eat this isn't it. Compared to other "gourmet" burger places it doesn't hold its own. Service was pretty good and speedy. All in all, a good place to eat.

my fav of all time

This place is good and never lets me down. Best burgers ever! And the milkshakes are awesome too! The service can go either way but its all worth just one bite of a burger. I like to make it in once a week. :D

I've had a bazillion burgers over my lifetime, some great and some not so good. My favorite is made at a locally-owned steak house in my home town in west Texas. As far as Fudd's is concerned, they turn out a very good product, cooked to order with your choice of trimmings and extras. The burgers are good, the chicken is good, the salads, the shakes, fries, onion rings, cookies...they're all good. As for 'sticker shock', I have paid more for poorer quality. You want to eat cheap...go to Mickey D's and get a dollar burger. You want to eat good, go to Fudd's. It is consistantly on the top of my list. Fudd's puts out a good meal at a good price. To those who use price only as thier buying guide all I can say is, "You get what you pay for."

Ok

Its not the best place in town. If I am in the neighborhood I will go but its not a place I would travel across town for. Espically in Austin where there are alot of cool local places.

Yeah, a bit on the pricey side, but good reasonable burger with enough variety that everyone can be pleased and you can have seperate checks for the office crowd, as well as being very speedy.

Blech.

You should be ashamed when there are so many better local burger joints in town. There's no excuse to eat at Fuddrucker's. I also agree with the folks who think that Fuddrucker's is a rip-off. Blech, blech, and double-blech.

I didnt rate it crap because the food is still good. But I've been going to fuddruckers since I was a little kid, and I was betrayed this spring when they switched to pepsi. I can never go back. Bastards.

You can't really complain about the burgers. Shakes are also good, but it does hit you in the wallet. There are better local places that charge much less...
