Another Dry Burger

Read about this one on Chowhound. Reviews there are fairly positive. Also heard a coworker raving about it ("worth the drive"), so decided I had better try it out. For me, it was yet another fairly boring, dry griddle burger (see also Willy O's and Mighty Fine).
They offer a variety of burgers, all priced at $6.95, which includes your choice of either fries, onion rings or a salad. I opted for the regular burger ("Gabbi Burger") with fries. I would have chosen the cheeseburger, but they told me that they do not offer cheddar (which I find very odd for a burger place, see also Willy O's and Mighty Fine...do I detect a trend here?), only American and Jack. I am not so sure about the no cheddar proclamation, though, because I saw a few grates (is that what you call them?--pieces of grated cheese) of an orange cheese on my table when I sat down. Looked like cheddar to me! Another clue that they might indeed offer cheddar is the presence of a "Longhorn Burger" on the menu, which has chili and cheese (longhorn cheddar maybe??). Considering that evidence, this might be a case of the fairly rare "we don't have that cheese" phenomenon I have noticed before at other burger places--if the cheese is not available in sliced form, they "don't have it". For some reason, the idea of putting grated cheese on a burger just does not occur to some folks. But anyway, I did not pursue the cheese question.
Burger was fairly thick, a plus, but was a boring griddle-cooked dry patty. It actually tasted pretty good in spite of these defects, but there was nothing outstanding about it.
Bun looked like standard Mrs. Baird's material, and disintegrated halfway through the burger. Unfortunately, this bun breakup was not due to the juiciness of its contents; the bun just kind of fell apart.
Fries were plentiful, but nothing special--soggy, limp and pretty salty/over-seasoned tasting to me.
As far as atmosphere, there was a very loud and very small TV in one corner.
So, all in all, just another ho-hum griddle burger. And no Coke...Pepsi :(.
Great!

I love Gabbi's, the service and food is amazing. I took a couple of my friends over there and they agreed. It's most definatly worth the drive. My favorite is the BK dog, i encourage people to try it.

Really good burgers and friendly staff. Go for the longhorn burger, it's delicious. And look for the lunch specials where you get a burger, fries and a drink.
I love this place

I go to Gabbi's about once every other week. It's right next to my work. Counter staff are very friendly and have already learned my name - welcome me by my name everytime I come in and they know what I want. Great customer service - it keeps me coming back!
The burger I think is great. I typically get the cheese burger - the bun has changed since the last review. They use a somewhat sweet roll as the bun and it brings a whole new taste to a burger. Onion rings are thin and easy to eat - not dealing with a HUGE chunk of onion that you can't put in your mouth.
Service is fast - never had an order wrong either. (I go with friends that order different things)
Overall, I enjoy this place - yes, it's a little small and can get overcrowded with IBMers but all places do at lunch.
