Chain out of...New Jersey. Two locations in Austin. Chain is expanding rapidly nationwide, judging from their website.
Suggested by stimpy--thanks!

Popped in and sampled the cheesesteak. Pretty good. Bread was good, beef was tasty, and cooked up right there after ordering, of course. Grilled onions and peppers came with it. Thumbs up.
Their claim to fame seems to be freshness--they slice the deli meats for their subs only after you order the sandwich. They bake the bread in house daily. There's a meat case like you would see at a grocery store, and the slicer is right there at the counter. I'll definitely be back to try some of their cold subs.
Update: I went back for a cold sub, the #7--a turkey sub. The turkey was sliced right onto the sandwich. You will be asked if you want it "Mike's way," and I recommend you answer "yes." "Mike's way" means adding lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinegar and spices. All in all, a darn good sub. I really like their bread also. And their to-go bags are even cool. I'll be back for more.
Consistency Notice: I've been going back for the mini #7, add bacon, almost weekly for quite a while, and it is consistently good. Jersey Mike's has supplanted the grimy stoner-filled Thundercloud Subs as my sub shop of choice.
Consistency Notice Update: Had not been to Jersey Mike's for a while, and went for the turkey with bacon last week (4/1008) and it was perfect. Just as delicious as ever.

The best sandwich around. So glad there's a new location in South Park Meadows shopping area!

My hubby and I moved to Austin and away from our beloved Jersey Mike's. While this place is a chain, we found the service and food exemplary. I usually get their Turkey wrap, but have found the veggie sub as a wrap, grilled veggie, and baja chicken wraps all to be delicious. My hubby has tried and loved all of the cold subs except for the tuna (because he doesn't like tuna generally).
Leave your preconceptions about chains at the door. This place is worth a try.
Perfect!

Had heard about this place for three years and finally went by today...It was the freshest, I mean---sliced right in front of me!!! I got the "Original Italian" (recommended by the guy slicing it) and got it "Mikes Way". I have found the PERFECT sub!!!

I don't get it. Must be a warm fuzzy for northerners. Way better sammiches to be found in Austin.

As sandiches go, this place is well above the rest in my book! I sampled a few of their sandwiches until one day I ordered the #13 (The Original Italian: Provolone, ham, proscuittini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni) with lots of mayo, and now I can't order anything else when I go there!! It is that good!!
They cut the meat right in front of you and their bread tastes fantastic!! They have a good mixture of toppings you can have them put on your sandwich and the wait staff listens to you. When you ask for "a lot" of something, they put a lot of it on your sandwich for you. There is no need to keep asking them for "a little more, a little more..." like you do at some places!!
If you have never tried Jersey Mikes, what are yo uwaiting for?? Go now!! :-)
Good

I cant even compare subway to Mikes. They are not even in the same universe. I used to live near Mikes. Now I find myself traveling half way across town and finding various excuses to justify my out of the way journey when I have other things I should be doing.

Yeah, it's based out of Jersey, but hey the food is good and it beats Subway by miles and miles. The bread is good and the meat is high quality -- you can taste the difference when you eat it.

I was thrilled to see this favorite place of mine from NC here in Austin. I hate places with soft bread (read TCS)... Jersey Mike's is crispy and has really fresh tasty ingredients. Even though I am carnivore, I have always gotten the Veggie... Mike's Way with mayo. I wish there was a south location.

I got the turkey sub Mikes Way. I felt like it was really light on the turkey. Kinda like when you go to Quiznos you always have to order double meat just to get something resembling a sandwich. To me Jersey Mikes is all bread and not much else. Tuesday special at Deleware Subs is the Italian sub. For under $4 on Tuesday you can get a meaty sub without the yankee attitude and the carpet bagging yankee prices.

One of the better imitations of true Jersey subs to be found in Austin. Neck'n'neck with Delaware.
