I had the lunch special, which comes to $6 even with tax. It includes a choice of sandwich (turkey or roast beef on the day I went), plus a side of either soup, chips or a pasta salad, and an iced tea. I chose the smoked turkey on white and the Tex Mex Corn soup. Sandwich was good, but nothing special. The soup was obviously homemade and was not bad, but it was not a personal favorite. Had a somewhat unappetizing pinkish color--was a cream soup with lots of tomato, creating the pinkish tint. Made with onions, jalapenos and corn. Not bad, but I'd choose something else next time. Their tortilla soup sounds like it's popular--they ran out while I was there. Soup serving size was generous. All in all, my lunch was not bad, but nothing about the sandwich in particular made it really stand out.
The place has a nice friendly feel to it. It seemed like most of the patrons were regulars--the employees were greeting everyone on a first name basis. The friendly service and homemade food is enough to bring me back to try something else from their extensive menu--they have many different sandwiches on the menu. I will be back, and will post updates then.

I work right by this place and frequent it for both breakfast and lunch. The staff is friendly and quickly starts to refer to you by name.
Breakfast: 3 item tacos for $1.50! These things are huge and tasty.
Lunch: Daily special (sadly more that $6 these days) is a great deal. The chicken salad is excellent, as are most of the soups.
This place is a great stop for a quick lunch. You can call your order in ahead of time if you are in a real hurry and the staff is wonderful. You can get better food if you go looking, but it won't be with the friendly service here and most likely will cost you more.

Nice mid-day "break" to go sit on the patio and have a tuna on soudough and read. Kinda dig the cats on the patio too. Gives it a forgien laidback feel.

I eat here relatively frequently. Some of the food is average good most is really good. Their tex-mexy soups are ok; but the cream of asparagus is out of this world! The cream of mushroom is also great! I'm not that crazy about the tuna or chicken salad sandwiches but the cold cuts, especially the ham, is really good. The employees are very nice and personable. When they forgot my salad the employee personally responsible gushed his apologies. It's a one of a kind neighborhood eatery that is worth trying.

I discovered this place when I worked nearby. I'm not in the area anymore but make the drive at least once a week just for the food and ambience. Order the lunch special. At $6.00 even for a sandwich, drink, and homemade soup it is the best deal in town. Other places say they have great chicken salad but this is the best in my opinion, it's the special on Wednesday's. My favorite soups are the chicken enchilada and tortilla. Eat on the patio and enjoy a delightful break in the day. You won't be disappointed.

If you want good food at a great price, then this is the place to go. The staff is very friendly and the service is fast. I've been eating at Kiefer's for years, never had a bad meal.

Second Review, in response to . . .
Was concerned that some have dissed Kiefer's for poor service and not being clean. Give it a rest.
Some days things are busy and you might not have Cindy standing in front of you talking about your life, but let's face it, this isn't Mikey D's, if you want chocked full of fat bland quick food, head on down the road.
As for clean, I worked in or managed restaurants for some 12 years and from experience can tell you that Kiefer's is cleaner than any White Castle hoped to be. Roachs, have you just watched a rerun of Victor-Victoria? The only thing I've seen in there with more than two legs was on a really nice day when they had the doors open. Thought I saw one of the local cats trying to mooch food at the door.
Stand by my position, I schedule my day around being at Metric and Kramer at lunch to have the best food, service and price at noon.

The food is great, but in the past couple of months staff turnover has increased, and their service has totally TANKED. Rude on the phone, not meeting commitments on delivery times, no apologies. I don't care how good the food is if the service is this bad.

I find it quite funny that Hill-Bert's was dissed for being "filthy" (run-down is more like it), but Kiefer's, a place where roaches have actually been seen, is given a positive review. Enjoy the insects in this sexy-looking cafe.

I get the special everday no matter what it is. My favorite would have to be the homemade Tuna Salad Sandwich or Chicken Salad Sandwich w/ Creole Red Bean Soup and Sweet Iced Tea. The Potato Salad is Phenominal! All the employees know me when I come through and what I'm ordering before I say it. " Hey B.L.U.E!" "Special on Wheat?" I repl "Yes siiiiiiiir!"
P.S. Best Peanut butter Cookies I've ever had as well as Chocolate Chip. Don't Sleep on Keifer's

I love this place! It is a quiet gem of a deli that does not exploit the average man's wallet for a simple sandwich. The breakfast tacos are excellently huge, but my favorite breakfast item is the peanut-butter-and-bacon sandwich. The sandwiches are equally plentiful and there are too too many to choose from. They are always willing to make a custom one for you. And the salads are big and healthy. Long live Kiefer's Deli

Incredible menu and the soups are to die for. Where else can you get a whole sandwich, soup and drink for $6.00. The menu is extensive and interesting.
The smell of fresh baked cookies, cinnamon rolls and scones are fabulous.
A MUST TRY EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO DRIVE. YOU WON'T BE SORRY!

Allow a little extra time on your first visit to read the menu, it's huge. Always fresh, always tasty, always a great price. Only complaint I've heard is from another customer that thought I took "her" parking space. Don't overlook the catering, deli trays are very large and always a crowd pleaser. Have you ever scheduled you day around where you want to have lunch?

The breakfast tacos are huge. I'm a big man and if I eat 2 I can usually skip lunch. Reasonable prices. Can get very crowded at lunch.
