Authentic Chicago style hot dogs and sandwiches.
Note: menu is available online at their website, but they recently redesigned the site to a non-linkable version for some reason. I.e., every page on the site shows in the address bar as "http://www.luckyschicagostylegrill.com/". Annoying.

Kind of a cool place. Chicago stuff all over the walls--pictures of the Bears, Wrigley Field, the city, etc. And an apparently muy authentic menu of Chicago-style delicacies. I had to of course try the "World Famous Chicago Style Hot Dog". If you don't know, it's a hot dog with a little yellow mustard, bright bright (artificially bright) green relish, tomatos, a pickle spear, some little hot peppers ("sport peppers"), onions, and "a dash of celery salt," served on a steamed poppyseed bun. I have never had a Chicago dog before, so cannot attest to its authenticity, but I have no reason to doubt such. The owner is apparently a transplanted Chicagoan, so it's got to be the real deal (and other reviews confirm this). They apparently import as much from Chicago as is practical (including the brand of hot dog, the bread, etc. See this discussion on Google Groups by some transplants for further details on the ingredients used and how Lucky's compares to the real thing). The hot dog was tasty, but I have to admit that my hot dog dressing preferences are a bit more traditional (just mustard--lots of it, onions and relish, please).
My dining companions had the Italian Beef Sandwich (another Chicago thing), and a hamburger. The beef sandwich was quite large, consisting of a mound of shaved beef and lots of hot (but not too hot) peppers, served on a homemade-tasting loaf (good bread). We got it "wet," another Chicago thing, which I think means "add some drippings or juice to it to moisten it up a bit". I'd try the Mozzarella Beef Sandwich next time--I think the addition of cheese would make it quite good (although indications on the aforementioned Google Groups discussion are such that getting cheese on it would violate the Chicago-ness of the Italian Beef Sandwich) . It was delicious as it was, though, and was very large. One sandwich could feed two. The hamburger looked to be nothing special--appeared a bit dry to me. The person eating it remarked "I've had better," and "I should have gotten one of those" (looking longingly at the Itialian Beef Sandwich).
So it's a cool experience because it sort of transports you to another place. Worth a visit if you are in that neck of the woods.

Why are there so many jerks on the web with nothing better to do than proudly display their ignorance like some sort of badge of honor? Sure you can go to HEB and buy a pack of Hill Country Fare dogs & buns for the price of one of Lucky's Dogs. You can also buy one of their pre-cooked brisket for a LOT less than what they charge at Rud's or County Line or Salt Lick. Hot Dogs are to Chicagoans what Bingets are to New Orleanians, what Pork Roll is to Northeasterners or what Fajitas are to Texans. You don't know what hot dogs are if you haven't lived in Chicago. Lucky's Grill is to Chicago Hot Dogs what Chuy's is to Tex Mex. Just because you've seen the Blues Brothers doesn't mean you understand Chicago.
The reason they cost so much is because of the HUGE expense involved in shipping them down here. I'm happy to pay what they charge because I'm so grateful to be able to have the opportunity to devour these delicious dogs here in Austin, or- anywhere in Texas for that matter. For lunch, the price is quite reasonable. If you're looking for a dollar menu, there is a Jack-in-the-Box in the parking lot before Lucky's.

Vienna BEEF sold here.
For those with a need for Vienna Beef hot dogs and beef, this is the place.
The decor is covered with Chicago mementos, the service friendly.
I had the Chicago dog and the beef (WET)
Chicago has more than one way to fix a hot dog, be it grilled, or steamed, or sometimes deep fried
I will return I will drive the extra miles for this
I live some 160 miles from the store, but work makes me drive past the store 2 or 3 times a month
Mmmmm...Tastes Almost Like Home....

I haven't had a real vienna beef Chicago hot dog in years....and this place came darn close. As soon as I walked in, I instantly recognized the smell of a real chicago hot dog joint. The hot dog was nearly perfect...the toppings were great, and the all-important poppy seed bun was steamed just right. The hot dog itself lacked the "crunch" of a real chicago dog....I think they must've steamed or boiled the hot dog, and that took away some of the pizzazz. All in all, it was awesome to taste an authentic Vienna dog once again.
My husband had the Italian Beef sandwich but was too chicken to try it "wet". If you're gonna try one, do it the right way! The au jus sauce is what makes it so good!

After living for 30+ years in Chicago and enjoying White Castle Hambergers, Chicago Dogs and Fox's Pub Pizza I missed all of them when we moved to Spring Texas. Last year we moved to Round Rocl and found Lucky Dog and we no longer have to rush to Fox's Pub for a Pizza. We introduced are son and his wife from Austin to Lucky Dog; the went to Chicago on vacation last week and said the Lucky Dog Pizza is even better than Fox's. We will be going back to chicago next month and will see if that is true. I Think it could be true.

Come on now. A whole pack of 8 weenies and 10 buns will cost you the same as this place and last you all week. Nobody in their right mind likes steamed hot dog buns. Thats what thos food eating contestants do. Soak the bun in water so it can go down smoother.
Real hot dog buns are grilled over an open flame. Same for the weenies.
I have eaten there and do not recommend it on price alone.
