This is a national chain, so expectations are not high, and those modest expectations are mostly fulfilled. Decor is as one would expect--shiny, clean, kid-friendly. Menu was physically enormous, measuring 18 inches tall. Fare is typical family-style chain: burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads.
The restaurant subtitle is "America's Gourmet Burgers & Spirits," so one would expect the burgers to excel. With that in mind, I of course ordered a burger, the "Red Robin Gourmet Cheeseburger." I would not classify the burger as "gourmet" though (side note--I looked up the definition of "gourmet" and discovered that its only meaning is as a noun, "a connoisseur of fine food and drink," so its use in the Red Robin slogan as an adjective is possibly in violation of English grammar). The burger was ok, served with the usual condiments, and cheddar cheese (one of seven cheese options, cool), but was nothing extraordinary. It was a bit thicker than a fast food wafer patty, but was not up to "gourmet" thickness in my libro. And it was not cooked-over-hardwood-charcoaly-flavorful as one would expect from a burger that had earned the tag of "gourmet."*
One nice feature is the "World-Famous Bottomless Steak Fries" that come with all burgers. You get all the fries you can eat. Not sure how they are famous the world over, though, since Red Robin only has locations in North America.
So the decent burger + the endless fries + the not-that-cheap price tag (they must build in a fee for those bottomless fries) of $7.99 for burger & fries = a score of "Not Bad" for me.
* "Gourmet" designation note: Noted Burger Blog A Hamburger Today makes a good point in this post re self-styled "gourmet" burgers about how misuse of the gourmet designation indicates the sad state of burgers today.
The place is great the food sucked today

22 of me and my co-workers had lunch at this location today and it was crap. I visit this location twice a month and i always recommed red robins for great burgers. But today i am not sure what was wrong. Everything was salty. First i thought it was only me, but after i said something everyone who had the onion rings, ranch dressing and a burger said the same thing. (TOO MUCH SALT) I love salt of all veriations so i am not one to complain about salt. The buns and the bread looked like they never touched the grill. There was too much butter on sandwiches made with Texas Toast, which made the bread soggy and the bread was not toasted as it usually is. I had a burger made with a ciabatta bun which is suppose to be a crunchy bite. It was like eating a bun pulled straight from the bag. I also customizied my burger which came uncustomizied. Not one of the items i choose was added to my burger. I am not sure if you need to retrain your cooks are fire one or more of them. Or maybe i should blame the waitress who took the order. Like i said i am not sure what the problem was today, i just know your establisment had a problem. I normally rank you guys with Dans Hamburgers, who have won numerous awards for their burgers. (By the way my sister is the general manager at Dans Hamburgers. I also have worked for Dans, so i know a good burger when i taste one. Did i forget to mention thant i am an award winner when it comes to cooking. I was so embarrased because i had bragged about your food for 2 weeks. We actually took a vote on where to eat and i actually had to twist a few arms to choose Red Robins. The last thing i have to say is i will never recommend Red Robins to any one again.

What a crappy meal. Blue cheese burger was dry and full of salt. I didn't even taste the blue cheese crumbles. And I can't believe the price. What a rip-off, I'll never go back.
Don't waste the time or money!

Austin's Red Robins are owned by a local Burger King owner, yet somehow the beef is worse than you might expect from a fast-food joint. Their "gourmet burgers" are dried-out pucks cooked in a miniature pizza oven and then smothered in so many sauces, fried things and vegetables that you can no longer taste how bad the burger is - they hope. The scam is then finished with a "gourmet" price tag.
You'll do better to go to Chili's or any of the other bar and grills they stole their recepies from. The food might actually be cooked on a grill and the price is much lower.

I agree that the place is a little over priced and way too noisy. On the other hand, it is one of the few places around that serves fried clams. And pretty good ones at that.
Good food

Best chicken sandwich I ever had. I chose the crispy chicken sandwich, steak fries were hot, my favorite type of fries. Didnt know it was bottomless fries, but didnt matter, because I had six glasses of tea after mowing that morning. Kinda expensive, I guess that's why.
Great burger place

Red Robin has obnoxious decor and its burgers are mediocre at best, but their Crispy Chicken Salad is just plain addictive. Plus, those chocolate raspberry shakes are pretty freakin' yummy. Take them To Go and you can skip the loud, in-your-face atmosphere.

This restaurant was definetly the worst dining experience I have ever had. It was noisy, crowded, and had very over priced food. I would not recommend Red Robin to anyone.
Good but pricey

The food is fairly decent, but it's not cheap and the atmosphere is very loud and typically corporate-chain "Anywhere USA" look.

The first thing that struck me is how loud the place is.
All of the tile and music and exploding balloons.
I was a bit unclear on the neverending basket of fries
I guess it is supposed to be like chips and salsa at a mexican restaurant.
The basket of fries came as infrequently as did the waiter.
It took 20 minutes to get a basic Bacon Cheeseburger.
The burger was large but flavorless and somewhat cold.
After waiting 20 minutes for a hamburger I expected a little more.
I also had a vanilla shake. It was also of medium temperature.
All in all - there are local places that serve up the same faire
for less $, less wait and less noise.
Good corporate chain

The place has a lot of "flair." I've had the Hawaiian and bacon cheddar burgers. The burgers are ok, although I don't think I would do the Hawaiian again; I didn't really like the burger/pineapple combo but just wanted to see what it was like. I like the wide variety of burgers and bottomless steak fries, although the burger is big enough that one basket of fries is usually enough. Service was attentive, although I was there at off-peak times and was the only table in the servers' section. A decent place, but would not travel across town to go there, especially with all the good burger places in Austin.
Try the Carnitas Burger

I'm a big fan of the food at Red Robin. But then I alway get the exact same thing: the newly added Carnitas Burger! Quite possibly the best sandwhich in town --- try it with cheddar cheese and a side of Campfire sauce for dipping (the campfire sauce is quite tasty for dipping the bottomless fries into, also).
The waitstaff is also considerably more professional, helpful, and friendly than your average non-chain Austin eatery (who thinks that grudging indifference-posing-as-service is worth at leat 18% gratuity).
