Home grown hot sandwich place. Famous for their sourdough bun.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with Schlotzsky's--hot deli sandwich on signature sourdough bun. I always get "The Original," so can't comment on their other offerings, but The Original is just damn good. Toasting the sandwich gets the salami juices flowing, melts the cheese, and toasts the edges of the bun for a nice crunch.
This particular location is always busy during lunch hours, but they are very efficient--there are usually four cashiers working and I have never had to wait to sit down. They also deserve praise for never screwing up my order. I always ask for no olives on the sandwich, and not once have they messed it up.
Geek Bonus: there are three computers for surfing while you eat. (computers no longer there) They also have free wireless.
Pickle Update: I have to agree with Joshua's review below--the pickles are pretty sad. Every time I go, they accompanying dill wedge is sad, limp, deflated and usually bruised and wrinkled. They taste ok, but just look awful. I think they need an upgrade here. I'd recommend Klaussen.
Service Update: 4/30/08, went for lunch, and they have finished a minor remodel of the interior, opening up a bit more seating area and the counter where you order. But the major update is that now, after you order, you are given a number-on-a-little-pole thingy that you set on your table, and they bring your order to your table, a la Culvers, which is an improvement in my mind.
The best.

Well, Even though I have eaten there [almost] literally every day for a year now, I have to say, I'm still not sick of it.
I've worked at an Austin location since June of 2006. We are the cleanest, most respectable restauraunt I've seen yet. You do not have to worry about what you're getting because we take alot of pride in our product and would never serve anything less than the best [accidents such as ingredients left on the sandwich when asked to be removed not included, hey, we're human)
No matter how rude you are, don't worry about Schlotzsky's employees spitting in your food. It's not even fathomable at our store.
But please, just one request, tell us if you want a Small or Medium FIRST. We can't punch in your order until you do. I literally have to ask the question 80-90 times a day.
Great different sandwich and very reasonable

Sourdough bread is to die for...and I guess I'm the oddball. I ask for a small original, extra olives (muffaletta-licious!!!).
their salt and vinigar chips (when they're super-flavor-explosion) are addictive.
I'm addicted

Had one this morning in the Austin airport - mmmmm... I live in Seattle and I miss this place so much. Maybe it's the salt or the texture of that warm bun or the olives (yum!) but damn, there's no place like it. Quizno's is the closest thing here and it's just not the same.
I don't get the appeal.

I understand that Schlotzsky's is an Austin institution but I have to be the one who says no way. I can't find anything redeeming or appealling about the food here. This is the kind of place you take grandparents to. Even the pickles are barely edible and I'm a pickle junkie.
I'm with you other reviewers - no me gusta black olives on a sandwich. That's just funk nasty.
For the same price I'll go to Quizno's or Jimmy John's if I have to hit up a fast sandwich joint.

I always get the medium deluxe original when I go there. It is awesome. I'm not sure what they do or where they buy the meat for their sandwiches but the meat is always very salty. It will put a sweat on you. The sourdough bun is a meal in itself. If you like your Schlotzsky's minus the black olives I recommend a place a little further up 183 called Alvins. Schlotzsky's and Alvins are actually related, Alvins split off from Schlotzsky's many years ago. Same bread, same sandwich minus the black olives.

Agreed with previous review. And why the olives? What deep dark pit of hell did that idea climb out of? At least for me, like the previous reviewer, they've never gotten it wrong when I've told them to leave them off.
