Cheeeap Monday Burger

This place undoubtedly bore a much heavier smoke stench before the smoking ban in Austin. It's a typical darkish bar, with pool tables etc., that serves food. I went on a Monday, when they have the hamburger & cheeseburger lunch specials. Service was spotty--I was ignored for quite some time after walking in and seating myself. In fact, some patrons that came in after me were approached by the waitress and given drinks and menus before I was.

I opted for the burger & fries special. It's only $2.99. I would have gotten the cheeseburger & fries special but they only offer American cheese (no gracias). The burger was thicker than I expected (I was anticipating a razor thin disk of a burger at that price). It was also pretty dry (they probably taste better when you're drunk). But for the price--you can get out of there for four bucks, 23% tip included--it's nothing to get worked up over. Unfortunately, that's the only point in favor of the burger for this reviewer--the price.

As far as "atmosphere," in spite of being an unassuming honkey tonk type of place, where the waitresses are apt to call you "hon," it seemed to be missing something--it wasn't as friendly or inviting to me as I would have expected.

So...the burger is not anything special, but it's veeeeery cheap (on Mondays). And can work in a game (or two) of pool while you are waiting for the staff to notice you! I waffled between giving them a 0 or a +1. The +1 would be based solely on value. In the end, I decided the ho hum burger just couldn't justify anything more than the 0 score.

*NB: The regular menu items, and even the other lunch specials, are not as affordable as the super-cheap Monday burger special.

I read the previous review and I actually thought the burger was pretty good (hmmmm). I've since wen't back for the "Big azz steak night" on Wed. They've got a huge steak and potato and salad for $11. Not a good thing if your trying to loose weight (me). Dang good steak though, and they'll cook it like you want it.
They've got an all you can eat catfish night too, but not sure what night that is. I've been back for the 'nightlife' and I can say I enjoy the place much better than other neighbor hood bars because you dont get the 'young adults' in there. Mostly an older crowd that knows how to respect one another. Not like the bars that cater to 20's and younger 30 year olds that aren't as friendly. I felt like I was part of a larger family when I was there.
The first time I went there, I didn't realize they had a 'back area' with a stage. You have to go all the way to the right and it opens up to a much bigger room than the front area.
